Economics of Business Ownership

This course prepares a student for his/her future role as a manager or owner of a business. Assuming greater job responsibility, being an effective supervisor, training new employees, financial management and daily operation of business will be covered.
A variety of approaches to emulate business practice uses a student run and operated store on campus. The student/employees gain first-hand knowledge of doing business in the "real world" economy.

Credit: 10-30 (variable per employment)
Alternate Credit: Coo-op - Average 10 hours per week (Note: 1 unit of credit is awarded for every eighteen hours of on-the-job work)
Community College Credit: Community College articulation available.
Fulfills U.C. "G" requirement

Marketing

This course provides students with the insight, skill and knowledge to prepare for a career in marketing/business. Students receive training in the areas of product development, pricing, promotion, places of distribution, personal selling, visual merchandising, presentation, management, resume construction, interviewing and how to attain and keep a job via classroom instruction, guest speakers, field trips, videos, competitions and technology.

Alternate Credit: Co-op 10-15 hours per week. (Note: 1 unit of credit is awarded for every eighteen hours of on-the-job work),

Community College Credit: Community College articulation available.

Economics of Business Ownership and Marketing are cooperative work-based classes, in which the curriculum is directly associated with on-the-job experience. Students receive variable credits based on the number of "on-the-job" hours worked. Students work for 10-15 hours per week at approved sites in the Tri-Valley geographical area with their current job, or employment leads and guidance will be provided.
Leadership skills can be reinforced through participation in the vocational student organization, DECA (an association of marketing students). There are district, state and international activities that focus on entrepreneurship. Students choosing to be members of DECA may have the opportunity to receive recognition, awards and scholarships.
